Someone Put The Story Together For The Girlfriend Of The iStock Photo Meme
By Aimee LutkinUpdated Nov. 18 2019, 2:36 p.m. ET
It seems like just yesterday that Twitter was flooded with the "distracted boyfriend" meme, based on an iStock photo of a very rude boyfriend checking out another girl while walking with his offended lady. You could see anything you want in this three person interaction by assigning identities to them. Now Twitter user Andrew J Abernathy is flipping the construct upside down and assigning an entire life to one of the meme's characters. Who would have thought she actually had a story to go with her? All we've ever known is the one image that painted a very bleak picture. But it seems there was more that led to the build up to one of the Internet's favorite memes at the moment.
Abernathy tweeted that he was messing around on iStock, when he found the original picture and the many, many other photos featuring the same models:
Looking up stock photos for work and I think I found "distracted bf" girl. pic.twitter.com/pU4flzuLDT
— Andrew J Abernathy (@ajabernathy) November 20, 2017He decided to arrange them into a story, focusing on the poor girlfriend. She seems to have gone through quiet a bit with this dude which is leaving us wondering where their story began.
What follows is a tale of betrayal, false hopes and broken hearts! Grab your tissues because you're going to certainly need them for this sad story.
After being blatantly disrespected by her bf on the streets, it looks like she is also having trouble with homework. pic.twitter.com/fi0gsecpgQ
— Andrew J Abernathy (@ajabernathy) November 20, 2017Looks like she didn't learn her lesson and they're buying something expensive together. pic.twitter.com/BYwIB1NsDV

— Andrew J Abernathy (@ajabernathy) November 20, 2017This is REALLY detailed for a stock photo... pic.twitter.com/gx4Qpm7T7r
— Andrew J Abernathy (@ajabernathy) November 20, 2017By the way, I'm not kidding here. There are 40+ pages of these two living their best/worst lives together. pic.twitter.com/MOyt5tpvTB
— Andrew J Abernathy (@ajabernathy) November 20, 2017Wow. You could, of course, rearrange these images into a completely different story, or at least one that doesn't make this lady look like a fool for taking her man back over and over. In fact, Abernathy says there's way more pictures. How much punishment can she actually take? I don't think our hearts can contain much more.
I could spend the rest of the day on this because I've only gotten through 14 of the 44 pages these two have together. There might be an "attempted murder" photo by page 30! I'll leave on this one.
GIRL YOU KNEW WHAT HE WAS!! pic.twitter.com/PcEAJKMNHa
— Andrew J Abernathy (@ajabernathy) November 20, 2017Who will give "distracted boyfriend" meme girlfriend the story she deserves? Or, at least a name. How about...Sarah?
